GW Women's Tennis Blanks George Mason, 7-0, in Weekend Finale
Colonials Open Atlantic 10 Play in Pittsburgh on Saturday

MONTCLAIR, Va. - The George Washington women's tennis team defeated local rival George Mason, 7-0, on Sunday in its second match in as many days at the indoor Montclair Country Club in Montclair, Va.
Each of the Colonials' (2-2) six singles victories came in straight sets over the Patriots (1-4), including a 6-0, 6-0 sweep by senior Mimi Hamling over GMU's Kiersten Pappas at the No. 4 position.
"Everyone did a terrific job today and built upon what we learned in yesterday's match," ninth-year head coach Dawn Buth said. "We focused and we competed and we are excited about carrying this momentum into our conference matches next weekend in Pittsburgh."
GW opened the match by claiming the doubles point at all three spots. The duo of senior Dorota Lysienia and freshman Lana Robins defeated GMU's Pappas and Brittany Pilkington, 8-3, in the No. 1 match. Hamling and junior Leah Pascarella teamed up to blank Ashley Delaney and Maya Hicks, 8-0, in the second-flight match and the No. 3 freshmen team of Christina Carpenter and Stephanie Wei defeated Ekaterina Desiatnikova and Erdenesuren Erdenebat, 8-7 (6).
In singles action, Robins earned a 6-2, 6-2, No. 1 victory over Pilkington, and Pascarella downed Hicks 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 2 spot. Wei defeated Delaney 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 and junior Isabella Escobar nearly blanked Erdenesuren Erdenebat in the No. 5 match, 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 6 match Carpenter defeated Andrea Londen, 6-1, 6-3.
GW opens Atlantic 10 play with back-to-back matches in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Feb. 16 and 17. The Colonials first face Saint Joseph's on Saturday at 3 p.m. followed by an 11 a.m. match against Duquesne on Sunday.
