GW Women's Tennis Downed by West Virginia, 4-3
Feb. 12, 2012 Senior Jacqueline Corba and sophomore Isabella Escobar were the only Colonials to win their singles matches. Corba defeated Mary Chupa, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 2 spot and Escobar downed Catie Wickline in the No. 5 match, 7-6, 6-3. In the No. 1 singles spot, sophomore Leah Pascarella dropped a three-set match to Emily Mathis by set scores of 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. Lorena Valente, making her collegiate debut, fell to Ikttesh Chahal in the No. 3 match, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. In the No. 4 spot, junior Mimi Hamling was defeated by Veronica Cardenas, 6-3, 6-3. GW won the No. 6 match by default. In No. 1 doubles action, the duo of Hamling and senior Zoe Krohn fell to Mathis and Chupa, 8-6. In the No. 2 match, Escobar and Pascarella lost in a tiebreaker, 8-8 (7-3) to Cardenas and Chahal. The Colonials won the No. 3 match by default. GW returns to the court on Sunday, Feb. 12, for a 1 p.m., match at Drexel.
