Women's Tennis Blanks Rival George Mason, 7-0

WOODBRIDGE, VA -- The George Washington women's tennis defeated area rival George Mason 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Montclair Country Club. The Colonials were energized to take on the Patriots after having the previous weekend's matches cancelled due to winter weather. Sophomore co-captain Jacqueline Corba extended her winning streak to five-matches in singles and doubles action with two victories today. Corba teamed up with freshman Dorota Lysienia to blank Lindsay Gray and Meredith Cutchin, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles. Corba then won her No. 1 singles match in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, over Pappas. Lysienia also won at No. 3 singles in straight sets over Wingo, 6-0, 6-4. Freshman Mimi Hamling and sophomore Zoe Krohn teamed up at the No. 1 doubles spot to beat Kiersten Pappas and Allison Wingo, 8-2. Hamling and Krohn also carried the winning momentum into their No. 2 and No. 5 singles matches respectively. Senior co-captain Michele Style and junior Jennifer Hirsh were victorious over their No. 3 doubles opponents, Cecelia Marie Greco and Andrea Londen, 8-2. Hirsh went on to defeat Brooke Blackwell, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 4 singles position for the Colonials. Sophomore Meg Tyner saw action for the first time this season after rehabbing an injury during the fall season. Tyner won her No. 6 singles match over Cutchin, 6-2, 6-2 The Colonials are back in action Sunday, Feb. 14, taking on Duquesne at 4:30 p.m. at The Club Sport and Health tennis facility in Monroeville, PA.
