Feb. 16, 2013
PITTSBURGH - The George Washington women's tennis team opened Atlantic 10 action on Saturday with a dominating 6-1 victory over Saint Joseph's at the indoor Alpha Tennis and Fitness in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Colonials (3-2) swept the doubles and won five-of-six singles matches to down the Hawks (1-4) in the Buff and Blue's league opener.
"Saint Joseph's is a competitive team and it had a lot of momentum coming into today's match after nearly beating Duquesne last night," head coach Dawn Buth said. "We had great energy in doubles which set the tone for the remainder of the day. We are excited to bring the same focus and intensity to tomorrow's match."
In doubles action, GW limited Saint Joseph's to a combined four points through the three matches. The No. 1 pair of senior Mimi Hamling and junior Leah Pascarella defeated SJU's Aurora Davis and Casey Robinson, 8-2.
