SOUTH PARK, PA - George Washington women's tennis defeated Division II No. 8 California University (PA), 5-4, Saturday at the Glen Creek Tennis Club. The Colonials improve to 4-1 in spring action, as the Vulcans fell to 8-2.

GW secured each of its five points in singles match victories. At No. 1 singles, Jacqueline Corba defeated No. 40 Annabel Pieschl in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Mimi Hamling took on California's other ranked player No. 42 Jade Pondicas, winning, 7-6, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Leah Pascarella defeated Anastassiya Zherdeva, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 singles, while senior Jennifer Hirsh won against Axelle Fernandez, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. At No. 6 singles, Dorota Lysienia defeated Nina Kowalski, 7-6, 6-3.

The Colonials went into singles action down 3-0, as the Vulcans swept three tight doubles matches.

GW will next take on Atlantic 10 opponent Duquesne on Sunday, Feb. 20, at the Club4Life in Monroeville, PA, at 2:30 p.m.
