Hirsh Secures 4-3 Victory over Duquesne
Feb. 20, 2011 MONROEVILLE, PA - The George Washington women's tennis team captured a close, 4-3, victory over Duquesne on Sunday afternoon. The Colonials improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Dukes fall to 3-4. The Colonials jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 9-8 (7-1) tie-breaker victory at No. 2 doubles by GW's captains Jennifer Hirsh and Jacqueline Corba. Mimi Hamling and Zoe Krohn won 8-5 at No.1 doubles over Megan O'Sullivan and Samantha Noble. Hamling and Dorota Lysienia defeated their Duquesne opponents in straight sets, to even the match at 3-3. At No. 5 singles, Hirsh took the first set 6-2, while the Duke's Tara Majdalani came back to win the second set 6-4. GW's lone senior stepped up and won the third set 6-2 to secure the team win. The Colonials will next take on Navy on Saturday, Feb. 26, in Annapolis, MD, at 7:00 p.m.
