Women's Tennis Knocks Off A-10 Favorite Richmond

WOODBRIDGE, VA -- The GW women's tennis team defeated the 2010 Atlantic 10 Conference favorite Richmond, 4-3, Saturday at the Montclair Country Club. Mimi Hamling and Zoe Krohn got the match going with a 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles to seal the doubles point for GW, while Sasha Gluck and Jennifer Hirsh also defeated their Richmond opponents at No. 3 doubles, 8-5. Jacqueline Corba and Hamling won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles points for GW, both going into three sets. Corba won the first set 7-5, dropped the second 0-6 but came back in the third to win 6-1. Hamling dropped the first set 4-6, but came back strong to win the next two 6-3, 7-6 (3). Meg Tyner showed poise at the No. 6 as she came back from a 6-7 (2) loss in the first set to take the next two sets 6-2, 6-2, for the Colonials victory. The Colonials, now 4-3 on the season, next face Columbia at College Park, MD, on Friday, March 5 at 11 a.m. before hosting St. Joseph's on Saturday, March 6, at the Mount Vernon Tennis Facility at 1 p.m.
