MONTCLAIR, Va. – The George Washington women’s tennis team held UMES scoreless through all six singles and both doubles matches for a 7-0 sweep at the indoor Montclair Country Club.
With the win over the Hawks (0-2) the Colonials (7-2) posted their sixth straight victory and blanked their second opponent this season.
“We did a great job tonight of staying focused,” head coach Dawn Buth said. “This weekend’s wins will put us in a good place as we prepare for next week’s matches in California."
GW won the doubles point with 8-0 sweeps from the No. 1 pair of senior Mimi Hamling and junior Leah Pascarella at the No. 1 spot over Valentina Collazos and Reine Fowajuh, and the rookie duo of Christina Carpenter and Stephanie Wei over Kenesha Abrams and Jasmine Jennings at the No. 2 spot.
All of the Colonials’ four singles victories over the Hawks were 6-0, 6-0 decisions. Freshman Lana Robins defeated Reine Fowajuh in the first flight and Wei topped Collazos in the No. 2 match. Hamling defeated Jennings in the No. 3 spot and at No. 4 senior Dorota Lysienia beat Abrams.
GW travels to California over Spring Break and will face Cal State Fullerton and UC Santa Barbara.
