Xavier Tops Women's Tennis, 5-2

MONTCLAIR, VA - The George Washington women's tennis team dropped its Atlantic 10 Conference opener to Xavier, 5-2, on Friday, March 4, at the Montclair Country Club.

Xavier gained a 1-0 advantage in the contest after sweeping all three doubles matches.

In singles action, freshman Tracy Stecko (Lake Forest, IL) and senior Sevla Gonca (Ankara, Turkey) each recorded victories to lead the Colonials. Stecko posted a straight-set 7-6(0), 6-2 win over Jackie Vilines at No. 4, while Gonca posted a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Annie Deidalis at the fifth spot for her third consecutive victory.

The Colonials (2-3) are back in action when they travel to Philadelphia, PA, on Thursday, March 17, to face the Temple Owls at 11:00 a.m.
