March 9, 2003
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The GW women's tennis team won their second match of the weekend against Mount St. Mary's, 6-1, at the GW-Mount Vernon Tennis Facility. The win helped the Colonials creep closer to .500 on the season as their record improved to 3-4.
Senior Tracy Wei (Marietta, GA/Walton Comprehensive) had no problems at number one singles, winning 6-1, 6-1, or number one doubles where she teamed with junior Lindy First (San Diego, CA/La Jolla). Unfortunately, First's injury flared up again and she was unable to go in singles, which gave the Mounts their only point of the match . Junior Nazli Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey/Lyree de Galatasaray) and sophomore Sevla Gonca (Ankara, Turkey/Bilikent) didn't lose a game on the day, both winning their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 and teaming to win at number two doubles, 8-0. The same goes for senior Samantha Fisher (Greenwich, CT/The Benjamin School) and sophomore Natasha Bode (Paradise Valley, AZ/Xavier Prep) who blanked their opponents at number five and three singles, respectively, and won at number two doubles, 8-0.
The Colonials will go for three in a row when they travel to Cincinnati, OH on Thursday, March 27 to take on Xavier.
