Women's Tennis Drops Pair on the Road Over Spring Break

FORT MYERS, FL & MIAMI, FL - The George Washington University women's tennis traveled to Florida last week during its spring break for a pair of matches against Florida Gulf Coast and Florida International. The Colonials were edged by FGCU, 4-3, on March 15, before falling to FIU, 7-0, on Friday, March 17 in Miami. Against Florida Gulf Coast, senior Sandra Simunic (Westerville, OH) and freshman Madhuri Jha (Oak Brook, IL) each posted straight-set victories in singles play, while sophomore Tracy Stecko (Lake Forest, IL) needed three sets to top Lydia Diaz-Galindo at the No. 4 spot. Simunic also teamed with classmate Anastasia Skavronskaia (Miami, FL) at No. 1 doubles to record an 8-4 win. The Colonials (2-6) return to action when they host Temple on Friday, March 24 at 4:30 p.m. The match will be played at Mount Vernon Tennis Facility, pending weather conditions. FGCU 4, GW 3 1.
