PHOENIX, AZ - George Washington women's tennis traveled to Grand Canyon University last week for two matches, one against Grand Canyon and the other versus Mesa State. The Colonials dominated the contests, winning both by a final score of 7-0.

In Wednesday's match, against Grand Canyon, GW took all three doubles portions by an 8-0 score. With the doubles' point already secured, the Colonials dominated singles play, winning all of their matches in straight sets, including 6-0, 6-0 shutouts by No. 1 Kendall Swenson (Shaker Heights, OH/Laurel) and No. 4 Tracy Stecko (Lakeforest, IL/ Woodlands Academy of the Sacret Heart).

Against Mesa State on Thursday, GW once again began the match on a positive note, capturing the doubles point by winning all three of the doubles competitions. In the singles play, Mesa State's Teri Mayeda tested Swenson before the Colonial junior rallied for the victory, 6-7(7-4), 6-2, 1-0(10-6). The fourth-seeded Stecko also needed three sets to down her opponent, Jamie Hanks, 6-0, 5-7, 1-0(10-5).

Madhuri Jha (Oak Brook, IL/University of Miami Online High), Mara Frisch (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills), Verena Knoedler (Gaildorf, Germany/Indian Springs, AL) and Rachael Honig (Worcester, MA/Bancroft School/American University) all took their matches in straight sets.

The two wins in Arizona improved GW's overall record to 4-4 on the season. The Colonials will travel to Harrisonburg, VA, to take on the Dukes of James Madison on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
