Women's Tennis Falls to Richmond, 5-2

April 1, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University women's tennis team dropped an Atlantic 10 Conference match to Richmond, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the GW-Mount Vernon Tennis Facility.

"We played a well-seasoned team today," GW head coach Dawn Buth said. "Although we showed great improvements in doubles, we're still making too many unforced errors in our singles matches."

The Spiders took a 1-0 lead in the contest after capturing the doubles point with victories at the top two positions. GW's sophomore tandem of Mara Frisch (Tucson, AZ) and Leah Woodard (Wellesley, MA) won by default at the third slot.

In singles play, freshman Tracy Stecko (Lake Forest, IL) topped Jelena Zivanovic in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 at the fifth spot, while sophomore Anne Watkins (Naples, FL) won by default at sixth singles.

The Colonials (2-7) return to action when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA, on Saturday, April 2, to face Duquesne at 4 p.m.
