WASHINGTON, DC - Led by a sweep of the doubles point and four singles victories, the George Washington University women's tennis team defeated American, 5-2, Thursday afternoon at Reeves Tennis Courts. Sophomore Tracy Stecko (Lake Forest, IL) posted her third straight singles win with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 3 to lead the Colonials.
In doubles play, seniors Anastasia Skavronskaia (Miami, FL) and Sandra Simunic (Westerville, OH) won their fourth consecutive match at No. 1 to lead GW's sweep.
The Eagles won at both No. 1 and 2 singles to climb back into the match, but the Colonials recorded victories at the third through sixth positions, all in straight sets, to notch their fifth victory in their final regular season contest.
The Colonials (5-9) are back in action when they travel to Monroeville, PA, for the 2006 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship, April 21-24, at Club 4 Life.
