CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The sixth-seeded George Washington women’s tennis team downed 11th-seeded Saint Joseph’s, 4-0, on Thursday afternoon to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic 10 Championship at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

The win puts the Colonials in the quarterfinal match of the conference championship for the third time in as many years. The Buff and Blue will face third-seeded Richmond on Friday at 1 p.m.

Thursday’s match marks the second time in less than a week that the Colonials have taken down the Hawks, as GW earned a 6-1 decision over SJU last Saturday in the squad’s season finale.

The Colonials opened the afternoon with a 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point with wins in the Nos. 1 and 3 matches. The first-flight duo of junior Mimi Hamling and senior Zoe Krohn earned an 8-3 decision over the Hawks' Aurora Davis and Casey Robinson. The No. 3 pair of seniors Jacqueline Corba and Meg Tyner secured the point with a convincing 8-0 win over Devi Jadeja and Laura Matz.

Hamling then lifted GW to a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 No. 4 singles victory over Matz, and sophomore Isabella Escobar extended the advantage to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-4 No. 5 win over Roy.

Tyner clinched the match for the Colonials with a 7-5, 6-2 win over the Hawks’ Kelly Mulquin at the No. 6 spot.
