GW Women's Tennis Overpowers Mason, 6-1, in Regular-Season Finale
Colonials Win Inaugural Revolutionary Rivalry Match on Senior Day

WASHINGTON – George Washington women’s tennis capped the regular season with a convincing 6-1 win over Atlantic 10 newcomer George Mason at the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonials’ now lead the Patriots, 9-8, in the Revolutionary Rivalry standings, an inaugural competition between the new A-10. Prior to the match, Isabella Escobar and Leah Pascarella were honored in a Senior Day ceremony.
GW (8-5, 5-2 A-10) opened the day by securing the doubles point at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. Rookie Allison Hansen and sophomore Lana Robins teamed up for an 8-3 win over Mason’s Ashley Delaney and Sofia Santa Maria in the No. 2 match, and sophomore Christina Carpenter and Pascarella topped Marijke Boers and Mina Saygi, 6-3, at No. 3.
Pascarella then closed out her final home match in notable fashion as she held Brittany Pilkington scoreless in a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 1 singles. Robins nearly blanked Morgan Yang at the No. 2 spot, winning 6-1, 6-0, and freshman Taylor Nederlander defeated Delaney, 7-6 (6), 6-3, at No. 3.
In the No. 4 match, sophomore Egle Jakuciunaite defeated Olivia Lacy-Thompson, 7-6, 6-4, and classmate Christina Carpenter earned a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win over Saygi at No. 6.
GW heads to Mason, Ohio next week for the 2014 Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Championships, held from Thursday, April 24 – Sunday, April 27 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
