CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The sixth-seeded George Washington women's tennis team fell to third-seeded Massachusetts, 4-2, in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship on Friday afternoon at the Boar's Head Sports Club.

GW put up a furious comeback attempt after falling behind, 1-3, as junior Leah Pascarella and freshman Lana Robins forced extra sets at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions, respectively. The Minutewomen clinched the match at the No. 4 spot, however, to advance to the semifinals, and the Colonials closed the season with an overall record of 11-8.

Freshman Christina Carpenter earned the first point of the night for the Buff and Blue in the No. 6 match, defeating Chantal Swiszcz, 7-6, 6-2. After dropping her first set, 4-6, to the Minutewomen's Sonia Bokhari, Pascarella fought back for a 6-2, 6-4 victory in first-flight action.

Competing at No. 2 singles, Robins fell behind, 4-6, to Yuliana Motyl, but evened the score with a 6-2 win in the second set. Robins nearly secured the win as she led, 5-0, in the third set.

GW will lose seniors Mimi Hamling and Dorota Lysienia to graduation this spring and is slated to return six players to next year's lineup.
