MONROEVILLE, PA - The George Washington University women's tennis team posted a 4-2 victory over fifth-seeded Duquesne Sunday morning in the seventh-place match at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship at Club 4 Life. The Colonials, seeded sixth at the championship, finish the season with seven victories overall.
In the seventh-place match, GW rallied after dropping the doubles point to win 4-of-6 singles contests against the Dukes. Senior Sandra Simunic (Westerville, OH) won her second straight singles match, and third overall, at the championship with a straight set win at the third spot. Sophomore Tracy Stecko (Lake Forest, IL), freshman Madhuri Jha (Oak Brook, IL) and junior Mara Frisch (Tucson, AZ) also won their respective singles matches in straight sets to help GW clinch seventh.
On Saturday, in its second match of the day, GW fell 4-1 to seventh-seeded Saint Louis to fall to the seventh-place match. Simunic won in straight sets at third singles to notch the Colonials' lone point.
The Colonials recorded their other victory during the three-day tournament in the first round against Rhode Island on Friday.
