Box Score

TOWSON, Md. – The George Washington women’s tennis team opened fall action at the Tiger Classic on Friday afternoon by defeating Howard and Saint Joseph’s, both by 3-2 marks at the Towson Center Tennis Courts.

The Tiger Classic does not follow standard dual-match scoring, as the teams competed in four singles matches and one doubles match for a total of five possible points.

The Colonials (2-0) opened the afternoon with a 3-2 win over crosstown foe Howard. Junior Leah Pascarella earned a 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (6) victory over the Bison’s Katelyn Stokes at the No. 1 singles spot, and due to a small Howard roster, GW won the No. 4 match by default. The duo of senior Mimi Hamling and freshman Lana Robins won the doubles match, 8-2, over the Bison’s Audria Bell and Gabrielle Moxey.

The Buff and Blue went on to take care of fellow Atlantic 10 member Saint Joseph’s, 3-2, later in the afternoon. Hamling earned a No. 2 singles victory over the Hawks’ Devi Jadeja by scores of 6-3, 6-2, and freshman Christina posted her first career singles victory at the No. 4 spot with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Nicole Esposito.

In doubles action, Pascarella and freshman Egle Jakuciunaite earned an 8-5 win over Saint Josephs’ Kristina Eisenbrand and Lauren Roy.

The Colonials return to action at the Tiger Classic on Saturday morning with matches against Delaware at 11:30 a.m., Mount St. Mary’s at 1:30 p.m., and host Towson at 5 p.m.
