FAIRFAX, VA - The George Washington University women's tennis team continued their 2007-2008 fall schedule at the three-day George Mason Invitational, held over the weekend in Fairfax, VA.

GW was one of six schools to compete in the tournament, along with Georgetown, Mary Washington, Towson, Virginia State and Saint Francis (PA).

Play opened for the Colonials on Friday, with a 4-1 win over Towson. Later that day, the Colonials cruised past Virginia State, blanking the Trojans, 5-0.

On Saturday, GW suffered their only match loss of the tournament as they fell to Mary Washington, 4-1. The Colonials rebounded in the afternoon, once again winning 5-0, this time over Saint Francis (PA). Against the Red Flash, Tracy Stecko (Lake Forest, IL/Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart), Jennifer Hirsh (Atlanta, GA/Woodward Academy) and Michele Style (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) all won their individual matches.

In their fifth and final match of the competition, GW squared off against host-school George Mason. Verena Knoedler (Gaildorf, Germany/Indian Springs School) won her third match of the tournament to help lead the Colonials past the Patriots, 4-1.

Overall, George Washington, winners of four of its five matches in the invitational, posted a mark of 10-5 in the singles' matches and 9-1 in doubles' play.

The Colonials take this weekend off before traveling to Norfolk, VA, for the Old Dominion Invitational, held October 12-14.
