Skavronskaia Wins Flight B Singles at DC Metro Championships

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University junior Anastasia Skavronskaia (Miami, FL) won four consecutive matches, all in straight sets, to claim the singles title in Flight B to highlight play for the GW women's tennis team at the DC Metro Championships, Sept. 23-29, held at Georgetown University. Top-ranked Skavronskaia defeated three straight seeded players on her way to the title. Sophomore Leah Woodard (Wellesley, MA) almost met Skavronskaia in the finals in Flight B, but fell to fourth-seeded Madeleine Long of Georgetown, 6-3, 7-5, in the semifinals. Freshmen Tracky Stecko (Lake Forest, IL) and Kendall Swenson (Shaker Heights, OH) each advanced to the quarterfinals in Flight A singles action, but both fell in straight sets in the semifinals.
