FAIRFAX, Va. – On Saturday afternoon, George Washington's women’s tennis team completed a second day of action at the Mason Invitational, hosted by George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.  The Colonials tallied six singles and three doubles victories against local rivals GMU and Georgetown in Saturday's action.

“The Mason Invitational was a good test for us,” said head coach Dawn Buth. “We had several good performances over the weekend and did a better job of utilizing angles pressuring our opponents.”

Sophomore Julia Blakeley went 2-0 in singles action on the afternoon, beginning with a 6-1, 6-0 downing of Georgetown’s Lauren Greco. Blakeley then swept the Patriots’ Allison Wingo, 6-0, 6-0. Blakeley's Classmate Leah Pascarella fell to Georgetown’s Victoria Sekeley, 6-1, 6-2, but bounced back later to overcome the Hoyas’ Madeline Jaeger in a tiebreaker, 0-6, 6-2, 11-9.

Senior Jacqueline Corba opened the day with a tie-breaking 6-1, 1-6, 12-10 win over Sophie Panarese from Georgetown. Corba then dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Lauren Greco. Sophomore Isabella Escobar also earned a tie-breaking win over Georgetown’s Madeline Jaeger by scores of 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.

Junior Lorena Valente nearly swept Nora Montgomery of Georgetown, 6-1, 6-0 in her lone singles match of the day. Senior Zoe Krohn dropped a 6-1, 6-1 match to the Hoyas’ Michaela Rollings, and junior Mimi Hamling fell to GU’s Sophie Panarese in a tight tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6, 7-3.


 

 

GW swept all of its opponents in doubles action. Pascarella and Escobar teamed up to glide past Georgetown’s Nora Montgomery and Michelle Pratt by an 8-2 mark. Hamlinmg and Krohn earned an 8-1 victory over George Mason’s Ashley Delaney and Alison Wingo, and Corba and Lysienia wrapped up action by downing the Hoyas’ Alexandra Landers and Michaela Rollings, 8-5.

The Colonials close out the fall season at the ITA Regionals on Oct. 21 – 26 in Norfolk, Va.
