GW Women's Tennis Advances at Navy Blue and Gold Invitational
Singles Duo Reaches Semifinals, Doubles Teams Reach Finals
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Two George Washington women’s tennis players advanced to singles semifinals action and two doubles teams reached the finals of their respective draws on Day 2 of the Navy Blue and Gold Invitational on Saturday.
The duo of freshman Grace Egger and sophomore Lana Robins defeated the sophomore tandem of Christina Carpenter and Stephanie Wei, 8-4, to advance to the A flight finals. Senior Isabella Escobar and rookie Allison Hansen reached the finals of the B doubles draw with an 8-6 win over Ruxandra Andriescu and Emily Bradshaw of James Madison.
Robins earned her way to the A singles semifinals, winning her round-of-16 match, 8-6, over Malin Allgurin of Longwood then earning a two-set victory over Towson’s Ayana Dow, 6-1, 6-1. Rookie Taylor Nederlander also reached the A draw semifinal match after defeating Towson’s Nani Lizana, 8-5, and Howard’s Umarah Mughee, 1-6 (4), 6-4.
In C singles sophomore Egle Jakuciunaite defeatd Georgetown’s Taylor Perz, 8-4, then fell to Anna Pelak of Longwood, 6-3, 6-4.
In other A singles action, Egger dropped an 8-7 (5) decision to Darien Sears of Navy and senior Leah Pascarella fell to Georgetown’s Kelly Comolli, 8-1. Hansen fell in her B singles match, 8-7 (9), to Paloma Altorre of Longwood, and Escobar lost to Howard’s Gabrielle Moxey, 8-6.
The three-day Navy Blue and Gold Invitational will wrap on Sunday with singles and doubles action at 9 a.m. at the Midshipmen’s outdoor Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium as well as the indoor Tose Family Tennis Center.
