Colonials Fall in Singles and Doubles on Final Day of Event

ANNAOPLIS, Md. – The George Washington women’s tennis team fell in both singles and doubles play on the final day of the Navy Blue and Gold Invitational.
Two Colonials players reached the semifinals of the A singles bracket and two doubles teams reached the finals of the A and B doubles draws at the Midshipmen’s Tose Family Tennis Center.
After earning their way to the A doubles final, rookie Grace Egger and sophomore Lana Robins were edged by James Madison’s Alex Huie and Taylor Pinchoff, 8-6, in the championship match. In the B doubles title match senior Isabella Escobar and freshman Allison Hansen fell to JMU’s Rachel Nelson and Jacqueline Palmucci, 8-3.
In the A singles draw, Robins fell to Katelyn Stokes of Howard, 6-2, 6-3, and rookie Taylor Nederlander dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Navy’s Darien Sears in their respective semifinal matches.
The Colonials close the 2013 fall season at the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships in Charlottesville, Va., beginning on Friday, Oct. 18.
