Doubles Teams Advance for GW Women's Tennis at ITA Atlantic Regionals
Egger/Robins, Nederlander/Pascarella Move Through Main Doubles Draw

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Two GW women’s tennis doubles teams won their respective matches on Friday to advance to Round 2 of the 2013 USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships at Virginia’s Snyder Tennis Center and Perry-Fishburne Tennis Courts.
The Colonials’ duo of rookie Grace Egger and sophomore Lana Robins and the team of freshman Taylor Nederlander and senior Leah Pascarella defeated their opponents to move through the doubles main draw. Egger and Nederlander both dropped their opening qualifying singles matches.
Egger and Robins earned an 8-5 decision over Navy’s Katie Porter and Darien Sears and will face Virginia Tech’s Ilinca Stoica and Kelly Williford on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Nederlander and Pascarella defeated Malin Allgurin and Anna Pelak of Longwood, 8-4, and will match up with Olga Barscheuskaya and Daria Yakauleva of A-10 foe VCU on Saturday at 9 a.m.
In qualifying singles, Egger won the first set over Virginia Tech’s Sansitha Nandakumar, 6-3, but fell, 2-6, 3-6, in the second and third sets. Nederlander fell to Liberty’s Mariely Hassey, 0-6, 5-7, in her opening match.
USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships continue on Saturday with doubles matches at 9 a.m., followed by main draw singles competition at 1 p.m.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region includes schools located in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. GW is joined at the event by Delaware, Georgetown, Howard, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Marshall, Maryland, Morgan State, Navy, Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Radford, Richmond, St. Joseph's, Temple, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, VCU, host Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and William & Mary. The tournament is a single-elimination format and winners of the singles and doubles flights will earn automatic bids to the ITA National Indoor Championship in November.
