GW Women's Tennis Completes Day 1 of USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional
Freshman Lana Robins Advances to Singles Main Draw; Robins and Senior Mimi Hamling Advance in Doubles

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The George Washington women’s tennis team completed qualifying singles play and the first round of doubles on Day 1 of the 2012 USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional, hosted by Virginia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region includes schools located in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. The tournament is a single-elimination format and winners of the singles and doubles flights will earn automatic bids to the ITA National Indoor Championship in November.
In the first round of qualifying singles, freshman Lana Robins defeated UMBC’s Isabel Aldunate by set scores of 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. Robins then secured her spot in the main draw with a near blanking of Sydney Smith of William & Mary, 6-3, 6-0. Robins will face the Hokies’ Tea Ivanovic on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Senior Mimi Hamling lost to No. 3 seed Jacqueline Zuhse of Penn State, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round of qualifying singles. In Round 1 of main draw doubles, Hamling and Robins teamed up to earn an 8-4 win over Malin Allgurin and Sarah Moomau of Longwood. The duo will play
