Robins Advances for GW Women's Tennis at ITA Atlantic Regionals
Sophomore Standout Moves to Round 2 of Singles Main Draw

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - George Washingotn women's tennis sophomore Lana Robins won her main draw singles match on Saturday to advance to Day 3 of the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships at Virginia's Snyder Tennis Center and Perry-Fishburne Tennis Courts.
Robins rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Radford's Taylor Newman and will face Raluca Mita of Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon.
Senior Leah Pascarella fell to the No. 74 player in the nation in Danielle Collins from Virginia, 6-3, 6-0, and will move to the consolation draw. In consolation singles, Nederlander defeated Mafalda Lhorca of Norfolk State, 6-2, 6-2, and Egger nearly held Olga Baikulova scoreless with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
The doubles team of rookie Grace Egger and sophomore Lana Robins fell to Virginia Tech's Ilinca Stoica and Kelly Williford, 8-5, while the duo of freshman Taylor Nederlander and senior Leah Pascarella were defeated by VCU's Olga Barscheuskaya and Daria Yakauleva, 8-1.
Robins will return to the court on Sunday at approximately 2:30 p.m. while Pascarella will compete in the consolation bracket at 3:15 p.m.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region includes schools located in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. GW is joined at the event by Delaware, Georgetown, Howard, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Marshall, Maryland, Morgan State, Navy, Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Radford, Richmond, St. Joseph's, Temple, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, VCU, host Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and William & Mary. The tournament is a single-elimination format and winners of the singles and doubles flights will earn automatic bids to the ITA National Indoor Championship in November.
