BLACKSBURG, Va. – The George Washington women’s tennis team wrapped up fall action at the 2012 USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional, hosted by Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon, by falling in singles and doubles at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region includes schools located in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. The tournament is a single-elimination format and winners of the singles and doubles flights will earn automatic bids to the ITA National Indoor Championship in November.

The doubles pair of senior Mimi Hamling and freshman Lana Robins fell in the round of eight to Virginia’s Maci Epstein and Erin Vierra – the tournament’s seventh-seeded duo – 8-2. Vierra is ranked No. 20 by the ITA with alternate doubles partner Hana Tomljanovic.

Robins, who worked her way to Round 2 of the main draw with three straight singles victories, fell to the tournament’s No. 1 seed and nationally ranked No. 52 Petra Januskova of Penn State, 6-1, 6-2. Junior Leah Pascarella then dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to the Nittany Lions’ Chelsea Utting.

The Colonials return to action in January following a winter break.
