Demidenko Qualifies for Wilson/ITA Atlantic Regional

BLACKSBURG, VA -- George Washington University junior Nadia Demidenko played her way in to the Wilson/ITA Atlantic Regional tennis tournament on the campus of Virginia Tech on Thursday. In the opening qualifying round, Demidenko came back to defeat her opponent in three sets, 6-0, 5-7, 6-1. Sophomore Jacqueline Corba dropped her first set 3-6, but battled back to take the next two, 6-1, 6-3, to make it into the second round of the qualifying bracket. In the next round, Demidenko earned her bid to continue playing by winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, which qualified her for the main draw of the tournament. Corba fell in a tough three-set battle, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Also trying to play her way in was freshman Dorota Lysienia, but fell to her opponent in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Fellow freshman Mimi Hamling teamed up with Lysienia for the doubles qualifying round to win 8-2 and continue to the next round of play. The doubles pair fell in the next round 8-3. Demidenko and Hamling will represent GW in the singles main draw on Friday. In doubles action, Demidenko and Corba will pair up for the Colonials. Day 1 Results
