Women's Tennis Opens Season at Maryland Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, MD - George Washington Women's Tennis opened their season in College Park, MD with most of the squad taking part in the UMD Invitational on the campus of University of Maryland. Nadia Demidenko and Jacqui Corbia won their double consolation bracket and also performed strongly in their singles matches.

In the A singles draw Demidenko recorded a 2-2 record, while Corba finished the day with a 3-2 record overall. Jennifer Hirsh finished the day with a 1-2 mark. Over on the B singles side, Meg Tyner and Erica Altman each finished with 2-3 marks and Zoe Krohn ended 1-3. The C singles draw featured Verena Knoedler, who ended up 2-3 and Michele Style, who went winless on the day.

On the doubles side, the highlight of the tournament was the doubles consolation title by Demidenko and Corba. The Altman/Knoedler doubles team finished the day with a 1-3 mark.

The B doubles draw featured Tyner and Hirsh who finished a strong 3-1 on the day. Krohn and Style were the second doubles team in the B draw and finished 1-2 on the afternoon.

The GW Women's Tennis team will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the George Mason 3-2 Tournament and will then travel to Philadelphia for the ITA Regional Tournament October 24-28. This will wrap up the fall season for the team.
