Women’s Tennis Set to Face Pair of Opponents

SERVING FIRST: The George Washington women’s tennis team will continue its season-opening home stand this weekend when it hosts Navy on Friday at 1 p.m. and Temple on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (STLC).

LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials continued their hot start to the 2018 season when they defeated Delaware, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon. GW took two wins in doubles play to give them an early 1-0 edge before dominating in singles, 4-2, to improve to 2-0 on the season.

ABOUT NAVY: The Midshipmen (2-2) dropped a 7-0 decision to Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon in their first road match of the 2018 season. Emily Louie-Meadors leads the team in singles play with a 2-1 mark this spring while Kaylah Hodge and Amanda Keller (2-1) pace the team in doubles action.

SERIES HISTORY: The Colonials claimed a 5-2 victory over the Midshipmen last season. GW clinched the early doubles point and took four singles matches to solidify the win.

ABOUT TEMPLE: The Owls (1-1) opened their season with a 7-0 triumph over Morgan State, but fell in their first road match of the season, 4-0, on Sunday when they took on Penn State shorthanded. Temple will visit Princeton on Thursday before traveling to the nation’s capital to face the Colonials on Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY: GW edged Temple on the road, 4-3, in 2017. The Buff and Blue won the crucial doubles point before splitting singles matches to come away with the victory.
