Women’s Tennis Opens A-10 Play on Friday

SERVING FIRST: The George Washington women’s tennis team opens Atlantic 10 action on Friday at 1 p.m. when it welcomes Richmond to the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (STLC). The Colonials will then visit William & Mary for an 11 a.m. matchup on Saturday in Williamsburg.

LAST TIME OUT: The Buff and Blue controlled singles play with wins on courts 1-5 to seal a 5-2 victory against Radford on Saturday. Freshman Julia Herlogsson improved to 7-1 in singles play with her win at the No. 4 position.

ABOUT RICHMOND: Richmond (1-4) suffered a 6-1 loss against William & Mary on Sunday afternoon in Williamsburg. The Spiders are coming off of a two-match losing streak, but remain 1-0 in conference play this season.

SERIES HISTORY: Despite singles wins from both Taylor Nederlander and Kamilla Beisenova, the Colonials fell short to the Spiders, 5-2, in last year’s matchup in Richmond.

ABOUT WILLIAM & MARY: The Green and Gold (7-5) picked up two wins at home on Sunday at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. William & Mary captured the doubles points in both matches and nearly swept their opponents in singles play.

SERIES HISTORY: The Colonials will take on the Tribe for the first time since January 18, 2004.
