GW's Robins, Egger Sweep A-10 Women's Tennis Awards

Sophomore Lana Robins was named A-10 Women's Tennis Performer of the Week on Tuesday for the second time this season.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington sophomore Lana Robins and freshman Grace Egger swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards, the league announced on Tuesday, as Robins was tabbed the Women's Tennis Performer of the Week and Egger earned Rookie Performer of the Week.

The sophomore-freshman duo went undefeated in singles and doubles to help GW (3-3) to a 2-0 weekend of A-10 action with wins over Massachusetts (5-2) and Fordham (4-1). The weekly nod marks the second of the season for Robins as she was also honored as Performer of the Week on Feb. 4.

Robins went unbeaten in No. 1 singles and limited her opponents to a combined 10 games over the two matches. In the Colonials' conference-opening victory over the Minutewomen on Saturday, the Bellevue, Wash., native downed Sonia Bokhari, 6-4, 6-1. Robins then earned a 6-4, 6-2 decision over the Rams' Elliesa Ball on Sunday. She is 13-6 overall this season and owns a dual-match record of 4-2 in the top flight.

Competing in No. 6 singles, Egger held her competition to six total games in the weekend sweep. The rookie first defeated Massachusetts' Chanel Glasper, 6-1, 7-5, on Saturday before holding Fordham's Anika Novacek scoreless in a 6-0, 6-0 win on Sunday. Egger is 8-6 during her first season with the Buff and Blue and is 3-3 this spring, including undefeated 3-0 in the No. 6 spot.



The duo also teamed up at No. 2 doubles this weekend, taking care of the Minutewomen's Jessica Podlofsky and Arielle Griffin, 8-6, then rolling to an 8-1 win over the Rams' Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong. Egger and Robins own an overall record of 12-4 and a dual-match record of 4-1 and are currently riding a four-match winning streak dating back to Jan. 25.

Egger, Robins and GW open outdoor home action on Monday, March 10 when they welcome A-10 foe Saint Louis to the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus for a 1 p.m. match.
