April 5, 2011
NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The George Washington women's tennis team has been seeded fourth in the 2011 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship beginning Friday, April 8, at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, VA. The Colonials will take on the No. 13 seed Rhode Island at 10:30 am Friday.
"We had an excellent weekend against Longwood and Towson and we hope to carry this momentum with us to the A-10 Championship this upcoming weekend in Charlottesville," said head coach Dawn Buth. "We finished the regular spring season with a strong 10-5 record, however the A-10 Tournament will be an absolute battle this year. Our team will need to redouble its efforts and implement a mindset of incredible mental toughness and the willingness to implement percentage tactics without fear of or focus on the end result."
GW wrapped up the 2011 spring season with victories over Longwood (5-1) on Saturday at the Mount Vernon Tennis Center and at Towson (7-0) on Sunday to finish 10-5 overall, 2-2 against Atlantic 10 opponents.
Rhode Island (8-9, 1-3) was not on the 2011 GW regular season schedule, and had only one common opponent in Saint Joseph's. URI fell to SJU, 5-2, on Sunday, while GW swept the Hawks, 7-0, in late March.
