Women's Tennis Goes 1-1 On First Day of A-10 Championships
April 17, 2003 COLLEGE PARK, MD - The GW Women's Tennis team started strong in the Atlantic 10 Championships on Thursday, April 17, beating La Salle 5-0, but they dropped their second round match to Massachusetts, 4-1, at the Tennis Center at College Park in College Park, MD. In their first round match against La Salle, GW got singles victories from junior Lindy First (San Diego, CA/La Jolla), sophomore Natasha Bode (Paradise Valley, AZ/Xavier Prep), sophomore Sevla Gonca (Ankara, Turkey/Bilkent) and freshman Estee Bartell (San Diego, CA/Torrey Pines). They also swept doubles competition with wins by the teams of First and senior Tracy Wei (Marietta, GA/Walton Comprehensive), Bode and Bartell and Gonca and junior Nazli Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey/Lyree de Galatasaray). The Colonials weren't so fortunate in their second match, dropping the contest to Massachusetts, 4-1. GW's lone point came from Natasha Bode at number four singles. GW will challenge Duquesne in their next match on Friday, April 18 in the fifth place bracket at 1:00 p.m.
