Three Colonials Named to A-10 Women's Tennis All-Conference Teams
April 22, 2011
NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- Junior Jacqueline Corba and freshmen Julia Blakeley and Leah Pascarella represented George Washington women's tennis on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First and Second teams, the league announced today. "We're very excited and proud of Jacqui, Julia, and Leah for making All-Conference Selections this year," said head coach Dawn Buth. "Like sophomores Mimi Hamling and Dorota Lysienia, Julia and Leah came in as freshman year and hit the ground running. They embody the strong commitment, work ethic, focus, and mental toughness necessary for successful Division I student-athletes." A Greenwich, CT native, Corba wrapped up her junior season with a 9-7 record at No. 1 singles and 7-6 in doubles. It marks the second straight first team All-Atlantic 10 honor for Corba and her third All-Conference award in as many seasons. Newcomers Blakeley and Pascarella were both named to the A-10 All-Conference second team. The duo combined to go 3-6 in doubles for the Colonials. Blakeley, a native of Irvine, CA, was named A-10 Rookie Performer of the Week on Feb. 7 after picking up No. 2 singles victories over Drexel, Penn, George Mason and Howard. Pascarella posted an 11-6 record at No. 3 singles, with wins over league opponents Xavier, Rhode Island, Temple and Richmond. The Colonials wrapped the 2010-11 season with 15 wins and placed fourth at the Atlantic 10 Championships earlier this month.
