GW Women's Tennis Heads to Georgetown Classic This Weekend
Colonials to Compete in Three-Day Tournament Hosted by District Rivals

WASHINGTON – The George Washington women’s tennis team returns to action this weekend at the Georgetown Classic from Friday, Sept. 20 – Sunday, Sept. 22.
The three-day event will be held at the Hoyas’ McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex as well as the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus. The Colonials will compete against host Georgetown, Morgan State, Norfolk State, UMBC and NJCAA member ASA College throughout the weekend and action is set to commence on Friday at 9 a.m.
The Buff and Blue return to the annual tournament looking to reclaim their titles as they won both the singles and doubles draws a year ago. Leah Pascarella rolled to four consecutive victories en route to the singles title, while Lana Robins and graduate Mimi Hamling (’13) took home the doubles crown with three match wins.
GW split opening action at the Tiger Classic two weekends ago with a 3-3 mark. The Colonials defeated host Towson (4-1), Indiana (Pa.) (5-0) and George Mason (5-0) and were edged by Delaware (2-3), Saint Joseph’s (2-3) and Indiana (Pa.) (1-2). Sophomore Christina Carpenter and rookies Grace Egger and Allison Hansen opened the season with 2-0 records in both singles and doubles play.
