Women's Tennis' Bartell Garners Weekly A-10 Award

Oct. 22, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC - Freshman Estee Bartell (San Diego, CA/Torrey Pines) was named Rookie of the Week for Women's Tennis by Atlantic 10 on October 21. She received the award for her standout play last weekend against cross-town rival Georgetown, in which she won both her singles and doubles matches.

Bartell had no problems in her singles match, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Georgetown's Stephanie Sutton. Then, she teamed up with sophomore Sevla Gonca (Ankara, Turkey/Bilkent) to defeat Sutton and Lara Madonia, 8-6.

Up next, the Colonials will be represented by senior Tracy Wei (Marietta, GA/Walton Comprehensive) and junior Nazli Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey/Lyree de Galatasaray) at the Omni Hotel Tournament in Cambridge, MA, October 24-27. The full team will return to action on January 19, 2003 at William & Mary.
