Women’s Tennis Completes Day One at Hokie Invite

BALCKSBURG, Va. – The George Washington women’s tennis squad completed day one at Virginia Tech’s Hokie Invite on Friday.

In singles action, junior Maria Siopacha defeated Shannon Hanley from Penn State, 6-3, 6-2, in the Service Flight and will continue on to the semifinal round on Saturday.

In doubles play, Siopacha and junior Victoria Kogan advance to the quarterfinal round after defeating Virginia Tech’s Nancy Ghanem and Fallon Delp, 8-2, and Miami’s Milana Lysova and Mackanzie Myers, 8-5.

Senior Marie-Louise Decamps and freshman Julia Herlogsson defeated Virginia Tech’s McKenzie Collins Luisa Uscocovich, 8-4, in the first round of the Orange Flight, but fell to Melissa Ifidzhen and Sofia Sualehe of VCU in a close 8-7(4) match in the second round.

Both singles and doubles play will continue on Saturday. Flight champions will be crowned on Sunday.
