Volleyball Falls at Maryland, 3-0

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Colonials volleyball team fell to Maryland, 3-0, Friday night in the season-opener for both teams. The Terrapins, led by Lynnsey Jones' 16 kills, defeated GW, 30-27, 30-22, 30-24, in the opening round of the Maryland Invitational at Maryland's at Ritchie Coliseum.

Junior co-captain Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) led GW with a team-high 12 kills.

UMBC won a four-game thriller over Binghamton in an opening match, 30-26, 27-30, 30-17, 36-34.

Maryland used a balanced attack to hit better than .300 for the match. The Terrapins had nine service aces on the night and eight blocks, doubling the Colonials in both categories.

The two-day, round-robin tournament continues on Saturday with Maryland hosting Binghamton at 11 a.m., followed by George Washington against UMBC in the early session. The Colonials battle Binghamton at 5, followed by the tournament finale between Maryland and UMBC at 7.
