Volleyball Blocks Lafayette, 3-0

EASTON, PA -- The Colonials volleyball team won its second straight match and recorded its second 3-0 sweep of the season after dropping Lafayette, 30-24, 30-23, 30-13, Friday at Lafayette's Kirby Sports Center in just the second meeting between the teams.

The Colonials hit an efficient .246 (45 kills, 15 errors, 122 attempts) compared to just .008 (22-21-123) for Lafayette. GW senior Janine Brown extended her string of consecutive double-doubles to eight straight with a match-high 14 kills and 12 digs for 15.5 points. Junior Liz Moult hit . 286 with nine kills, one error in 28 swings and a pair of block assists for 10 points.

The Colonials were effective at the net with 14 total blocks compared to Lafayette's four blocks. GW sophomore Stephanie Sharp recorded her career-high five block assists to go with a block solo and added three kills and a pair of aces for 8.5 points.

GW was minus two from the service line with eight aces but 10 service errors while Lafayette had five aces cancelled out by five service errors.

Game one was competitive through the first seven points before GW gradually built and maintained a 3-5 point lead for the remainder of the set en route to the 30-24 victory. Game two followed a similar storyline with the Colonials building a 10-4 lead early and maintaining a 5-7 point lead the rest of the way. Game three was all GW after the Colonials pulled away from a 12-9 lead to outscore the Leopards, 18-4, en route to the 30-13 triumph.

Lafayette (3-3) was led by Katrina Racibarskas' six kills for 8 points while teammate Michaela Donohue had a team-high 13 digs.

GW (4-4) next plays Fairleigh Dickinson at noon Saturday in day two of the Lafayette Invitational before facing Maryland-Eastern Shore at 2 pm Saturday also at Lafayette.
