Volleyball Improves to 7-0 With 3-1 Victory Over St. Peter's

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - Seniors Ruth Lazzari and Sarah Hokom had 20 kills each to lead the GW volleyball team past St. Peter's 3-1 (32-30, 30-14, 22-30 and 30-14) Friday in the Clarion Suites Classic on the campus of Rutgers University.
Hokom hit a career-best .621 committing just two errors in 29 swings while adding 12 digs and three total blocks. Lazzari hit an impressive .429 also committing just two errors in 42 attacks.
GW nearly doubled SPC in kills, 65-35 and amassed 84 digs compared to 76 for the Peahens. GW hit .272 (65-19-169) compared to .090 (35-22-144) for St. Peter's.
Serra Soylu led the Peahens (1-7) with 15 kills and Alma Qose contributed 29 assists.
The Clarion Suites Classic will resume tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 13 when George Washington plays Delaware at 10:00 a.m. Rutgers will face St. Peter's at 1:00 p.m., Delaware will meet St. Peter's at 4:00 p.m. and Rutgers meets GW at 7:00 p.m.
GW (7-0) and Rutgers ( 4-4) last met in the 2002 GW Volleyball Invitational won by the Scarlet Knights, 3-1 on Sept. 7, 2002. Formerly a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, Rutgers has played GW 33 times in volleyball where the Colonials hold a commanding 23-10 advantage in the all-time series.
