Volleyball Sweeps Charleston Southern, 3-0

PITTSBURGH, PA - The GW volleyball team swept Charleston Southern, 30-22, 30-18, 30-24, in the first-ever meeting between the schools Saturday morning in the Pittsburgh Classic at Pitt's Fitzgerald Fieldhouse. It marked GW's second straight victory after defeating UMBC 3-0, Friday.

Freshman Lindsey Vernand (Huntington Beach, CA/Huntington) had her best match as a collegian as she recorded her first double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs while hitting .417 (13-3-24) with a pair of block solos and a block assist.

Junior co-captain Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) matched Vernand's effort with 13 kills and 11 digs for her second straight double-double.

Junior Ruth Lazzari (Seal Beach, CA/Connelly) added 10 kills and 13 digs. Lauren Dunning (Stockton, CA/St. Mary's) assisted on 41 of GW's 58 kills and led the Colonials with 14 digs.

Charleston Southern was led by Allyn Beam with nine kills as the Buccaneers lost their second straight match. CSU also gave away 11 points on service errors.

GW (8-4) meets the host Panthers (9-4) in the final match of the Pittsburgh Classic Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
