Xavier Comes Back on Colonials
Colonials Squander 2-0 Lead, Loses 3-2 in A-10 Opener

CINCINNATI, OH - The GW volleyball team breezed to victories in games one and two, 30-24, 30-18, before dropping close contests in games three and four, 27-30, 26-30, and ultimately dropped the decisive fifth game, 11-15, Friday night at Xavier's Cintas Center in the A-10 opener for both teams.
Junior co-captain Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) was GW's go-to player on offense with a career-high 25 kills to lead all players. Hokom also added 14 digs for her fourth straight double-double.
Junior hitter Ruth Lazzari (Seal Beach, CA/Connelly) equalled her career-high with 26 digs amd contributed 13 kills in the two-hour, 13-minute match.
Freshman Lindsey Vernand (Huntington Beach, CA/Huntington) posted her third straight double-double with 11 kills and her career-high 22 digs. Colonials' setter Lauren Dunning (Stockton, CA/St. Mary's) assisted on 53 of GW's 69 kills and added 14 digs and a pair of block assists.
The defending A-10 champion Musketeers were led by Kimberly Cockerel's 21 kills and just three errors in 42 attempts for a .429 percentage. Katie Wygant added 16 kills and 17 digs for Xavier (10-5, 1-0 A-10).
The Colonials, who lead the all-time series with the Musketeers, 11-6, will host Xavier on October 26 in Washington.
Things don't get any easier for GW (8-6, 0-1 A-10) as the team continues its two-match road trip to Dayton for a Saturday matinee with the 2001 A-10 regular-season champion Flyers beginning at 4:00 p.m.
