GW Volleyball Drops A-10 Home Match to Temple, 3-0
Oct. 1, 2005
WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University volleyball team (6-10, 1-3 A-10) could not carry the momentum from Friday's win against La Salle into Saturday night's meeting with Temple (11-8, 4-1 A-10) as the Colonials fell in three straight games to the Owls, 30-20, 30-20 and 30-28, in an Atlantic 10 Conference match at the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center. GW fell behind early and was never in games one and two but came out strong in the third game and held leads of 10-4, 15-10 and 17-13 before Temple rallied to a 17-all tie. From that point both teams went back-and-forth with neither squad leading by more than one until a 25-23 Colonial advantage. After falling behind 27-26, GW sophomore Janine Brown (Jacksonville, FL/Bishop Kenny) tied the game with a dramatic kill. Two points later the game stood even again at 28 before the Owls connected for two straight points to take the game and match. Freshman Patricia Vernon and sophomore Christina DeMarco each recorded double digit kills for Temple, 12 and 8 respectively, while sophomore Ying Sun Ling produced 20 digs in the Owls' victory. Senior Abby Hatter (Manassas, VA/Forest Park) led GW with seven kills. Junior Kaimana Lee (Wailuku, HI/Seabury Hall) and sophomore Jessica Buche (Lake Odessa, MI/Lakewood) each notched nine digs in the defeat. The Colonials' losing streak to the Owls now stands at 13 consecutive matches dating back to 1999. GW visits Howard University Tuesday for a 7:00 PM match before returning to the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center Friday to face new A-10 member Saint Louis at 7:00 PM. - GW -
