PHILADELPHIA, PA (Oct. 2) - The GW volleyball team cannot seem to shake the Temple curse. The Owls defeated GW, 30-27, 30-19, 30-17 Tuesday night in Philadelphia snapping the Colonials' four-match win streak. It was GW's first A-10 loss of the season and sixth straight loss to Temple.

The error-prone Colonials committed 29 errors to cancel out 29 kills in 115 attacks for a hitting percentage of .000. The Owls combined to hit .300 with 51 kills and just 15 errors in 120 attacks in a one-hour, 25-minute match.

Sophomore Ruth Lazzari (Seal Beach, CA) led GW with nine kills and nine digs while hitting .143. Colonials' outside hitter Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID) added seven kills and a team-high 13 digs.

Freshman middle blocker Britta Stroman (Richfield, MN) contributed six kills in 15 swings hitting .133.

GW (4-7, 3-1 A-10) served just one ace in the match (by Hokom) to four by Temple. The Owls hurt themselves with 14 service errors.

Temple (11-3, 4-1 A-10) was led by Yamit Haba's 13 kills and 11 digs.

GW's last victory over Temple came during the 1998 season. The Owls have won 11 of the last 12 meetings.

The Colonials play their fifth straight road match this Friday at Rhode Island in a 7:00 p.m. match before facing Massachusetts Saturday, Oct. 6, in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Amherst, MA.

GW's next home match is Oct. 12 against Xavier.
