WASHINGTON, DC - Freshman Lindsey Vernand (Huntington Beach, CA/Huntington Beach) slammed a team-high 13 kills and hit .355 with three service aces and a pair of block assists to pace GW in a 3-0 sweep of visiting La Salle Friday night at Smith Center. The Colonials won 30-19, 30-22, 30-27 in a one-hour, 25-minute match on Parents and Alumni Weekend.

Junior Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) posted her sixth straight double-double with 10 kills and a match-high 12 digs. Sophomore Katie Downey (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) added 10 kills in 17 swings while committing just two errors for a .471 hitting percentage.

La Salle's Elizabeth Cron led all players with 15 kills and a team-high 11 digs. The Explorers fell to 8-11, 0-4 with the loss.

The Colonials outplayed the Explorers on both sides of the net accumulating 47 kills to 36 for La Salle and digging 61 attacks compared to 48 digs for the visitors.

GW was threatened only in the third game after taking a 10-5 lead. La Salle battled back to tie the game at 16-16 and took a late lead before GW scored the final three points for the clinching victory.

GW (10-6, 2-1) hosts Temple in an Atlantic 10 Conference match Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Smith Center.
