GW Volleyball Sweeps La Salle for Perfect Philadelphia Weekend
Colonials Swing .344 for Fifth Straight Victory

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Sophomores Taylor Knox and Rachael Goss each contributed 11 kills each as the George Washington volleyball team completed a perfect weekend in Philadelphia, sweeping La Salle, 3-0, at Tom Gola Arena Saturday night. Set scores were 25-18, 25-21, 25-20.
The match marked the fifth straight victory for GW (17-6, 6-3 A-10) and was its seventh win in the last eight outings.
The Colonials hit .344 for the match with 50 kills against 25 errors in 135 attempts while holding the Owls to a .171 attack percentage. Redshirt junior Katie Crosby finished with 41 assists, doubling the output of Temple's Kourtney Clark (20 assists).
GW started the match hitting .225 and forced eight Owl errors while holding them to a .043 attack percentage to take the first set, 25-18.
The Colonials trailed 9-5 in the second set before rallying through five lead changes and 11 ties to clinch the frame, 25-21. The last tie came at 20-20 but the Colonials assumed control down the stretch and closed the game on a 5-1 run.
Knox and sophomore Jamie Armstrong each erupted for seven kills in the final set, leading the Colonials to a 25-20 victory to clinch the match. Armstrong finished with 10 kills, five digs and a match-high three block assists.
Junior Lauren Whtye finished with nine kills and five digs while senior MacKenzie Knox added six kills. Defensively, junior Candace Silva-Martin led all players with 21 digs. Freshman Savannah Clark (10 digs), Goss (12 digs) and Crosby (11 digs) joined Silva-Martin with double-digit digs.
The Colonials return to action with a road trip to Ohio next weekend. GW will visit Xavier on Fri., Oct. 28 and Dayton on Oct. 29.
