Oct. 23, 2010
CINCINNATI, OH -- The GW Volleyball team entered Saturday night's match at Xavier tied with the Musketeers for second place in the A-10 standings with 6-2 league records but Xavier took sole possession with a dominant 3-0 victory Saturday night at the Cintas Center. The Musketeers prevailed by the scores 27-25, 25-16, 25-12. With the loss, GW plummets to fifth place in the Atlantic 10 standings behind Xavier, Saint Louis, Duquesne and No. 18 Dayton. The setback concluded a 0-2 road trip to Ohio as the Colonials suffered back-to-back sweeps for the first time all season.
The first set was the most competitive of the evening with one lead change and four ties, the last coming at 25-25 before consecutive kills by Kathryn Traut ended the set. GW scored the first two points of the second set before Xavier rallied and breezed to the 25-16 win. The third set was all Xavier after just one tie at 1-1, the Musketeers took the lead on a kill from Traut and never trailed en route to the 25-12 triumph.
