Hokom's 23 Kills Not Enough

WASHINGTON, DC - The GW Volleyball team fell to Dayton, 30-23, 30-24, 30-28, 28-30, in an Atlantic 10 Conference match at Smith Center Friday night allowing the Flyers to gain a split of the regular-season series. GW junior Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) led all players with 23 kills and added seven digs but it wasn't enough to overcome the Flyers. Dayton brought its defense to Smith Center blocking a total of 13 GW attacks (six solo, 14 assisted).
GW junior Ruth Lazzari (Seal Beach, CA/Connelly) and freshman Lindsey Vernand (Huntington Beach,CA/Huntington Beach) were the only other Colonials in double-figure kills with 12 each. Lazzari added a match-high 16 digs.
Freshman Shannon Parks (Marietta, GA/Walton) hit an efficient .364 (7-3-11) with a block assist.
Dayton's Erin Treadway led the Flyers with 19 kills and 14 digs while teammate Julie Neiser added 16 kills. Kelly Scott had an errorless hitting match posting a .889 (8-0-9) with three blocks.
Dayton (17-5, 6-2 A-10) hit .307 (69-19-163) as a team compared to .207 (65-30-169) for GW.
GW (13-10, 4-4 A-10) hosts Xavier Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Smith Center.
